Florida Child Support

Child support is for the care and benefit of the child(ren).  Child support is calculated using guidelines established by the State of Florida.  Factors used to determine the appropriate amount of child support include:

  • Income of both parents
  • Number and age(s) of child(ren)
  • Cost of child care
  • Cost of child(ren)’s healthcare
  • Special needs costs
  • Tax dependency credits
  • Social Security benefits
  • Reasons for underemployment or unemployment
  • Any other relevant matters

What factors determine child support?

Child support is calculated using guidelines or allowed deviations from guidelines. We will review our options, and then guide you through the process. The state of Florida requires analysis using guidelines, but many factors can ultimately determine the amount of child support ordered. Factors used to determine the appropriate level of child support include:

  • Income of both parents
  • Number and age(s) of child(ren)
  • Cost of child care
  • Cost of child(ren)’s healthcare
  • Special needs costs
  • Tax dependency credits
  • Social Security benefits
  • Reasons for underemployment or unemployment
  • Any other relevant matters

Most child support is paid through the State of Florida Disbursement Unit in Tallahassee through an Income Withholding Order.  The State of Florida then disburses the funds to the receiving parent via direct deposit.

Litigation, enforcement and modification

Sometimes it becomes necessary to enforce or modify an existing child support order.  We can litigate your child support issues no matter how complex your case.  If the other parent is failing to pay their court ordered child support, we can enforce your child support order.  Or, if you have had a reduction in your income and need to modify your child support obligation, we can file to have your child support recalculated.  Whatever your situation, we will guide you through the proper legal procedures to enforce or modify your child support to accommodate any changing circumstances in your life.
